High Risk Assessment

All women are at risk for breast cancer. There are some women who are at an elevated risk if there are a number of family members who have had breast cancer, particularly when they were diagnosed premenopausally. A family history of ovarian cancer is also important.

Fortunately, today there are sophisticated computer models that review personal risk factors and genetic pedigree. There are different levels of risk and different methods of risk reduction which are discussed in depth with a woman who wishes to avail herself of this service.

A woman can make an informed decision about MRI of the breasts, ductal lavage, chemoprevention, genetic testing as well as prophylactic surgery. Knowledge is empowering and can provide lasting peace of mind through an in-depth evaluation in our High Risk Assessment Clinic.
