Punch Biopsy This is a procedure in which, after local anesthetic is administered, a punch needle is placed into the skin. Once in position, the biopsy part of the needle is activated and a sample of tissue is taken. The needle is then withdrawn and the procedure is repeated, if necessary. This procedure obtains samples of tissue for the pathologist to evaluate.
