Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski, medical director and Clinical Breast Radiologist at the
Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center (KCBC), receives the Hero's Award at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus opening night, May 11, 2005 as one of the 3 Rings of Heroes. This award honored three individuals who have unselfishly worked to help others and have made our community a better place to live, and are nominated by people who consider these individuals their heroes.

Ringmaster of the circus, Kevin Venardos, gave a Heroes Proclamation to Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski, Master Sergeant Wendell Bandy, and Vicky Snyder as this year’s 3 Heroes of the Ring; and presented them with a gift from the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus. Dr. Kozlowski was nominated by co-worker Beanie Cudahy as her hero because of her continuous dedication to changing the delivery of breast health care for the benefit of
women by reducing their anxiety and empowering them with information.

Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski founded the Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center in 1983, which was the first to introduce film screen mammography and provide all services under one roof in the Knoxville area. She began one of the first mobile mammography units in the country to provide screening for women in rural areas. KCBC was the first presenting sponsor for “Race for the Cure” which raised $80,000 for breast cancer research. Also, Dr. Kozlowski continues to push for a Society of Clinical Breast Radiologists to promote a better delivery of breast health care throughout the country.
