06.15.06 - Inaugural Motorcycle Ride Raised $5,100 For The Kim Rowden Breast Cancer Memorial Fund

Knoxville, TN – On Saturday, June 10th bikers united to ride for a good cause… the fight against breast cancer. There were 150 bikes and 220 riders in the inaugural Rowden Ride which raised $5,100 to benefit the Kim Rowden Breast Cancer Memorial Fund. The fund helps women without financial resources to have mammograms.

The hour long ride began at Rodgers Cadillac on Kingston Pike and ended at Coyote Joes on Clinton Highway. The presenting sponsors Knoxville Harley-Davidson and Rodgers Cadillac SAAB provided the grand prize, a custom painted Harley-Davidson Sportster 883. The winner of the bike was Christine Cunningham, who is a third grade teacher at Hawkins County Elementary School whose mother, father and husband died from cancer. “I came to the ride with my fiancee because I wanted to support breast cancer research,” Cunningham said. “I would have paid any amount to be in the ride if it helped just one person with cancer.”

Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski, founder of the memorial fund and medical director of Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center said, “What an awe inspiring event to see so many bikers help raise money for the Kim Rowden Breast Cancer Memorial Fund. Their support helps provide women in East Tennessee the breast care they may not be able to afford. Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the Rowden Ride for their time and generosity.”

Founder of the Rowden Ride, Julie Rodgers added, “We were totally overwhelmed with the support of everyone. This will be an annual event and we look forward to the ride next year.”
