The YWCA honored seven women at the 22nd annual Tribute To Women banquet on August 17, 2006 at the Knoxville Convention Center. The event recognizes the accomplishments of local women and all proceeds benefit the various programs at the YWCA in Knoxville.

Kamilia Kozlowski, M.D. was the winner in the Human Services category. Other winners were: Kathy Johnson, Administrative Professional; Madeline Rogero, Business and Government; Theresa Nixon, Education; Sarah Moore Greene, Humanitarian Award; Virginia Dale, Science and Technology and Sherri Parker Lee, Volunteer Community Service. There were several hundred women nominated for the honor. Co-worker Beanie Cudahy and patient Judy Gardner nominated Dr. Kozlowski.

An innovative and dedicated physician, Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski has spent thirty years devoted to improving breast health care for women. She founded the Knoxville Breast Center in 1983 which is a free standing independent center. In 1997 it became the Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center which offered expanded services and a coordinated team of breast care specialists. Self Magazine recognized KCBC as one of the Top Ten Innovators of breast centers in the United States.

Some of Dr. Kozlowski achievements include providing state of the art technology and procedures to women in East Tennessee. KCBC has Tennessee’s only dedicated breast MRI, the first breast ultrasound, the first ultrasound guided core biopsies, and the first same day needle biopsies to provide test results in 24-36 hours.

After losing a 28 year old breast cancer patient, Dr. Kozlowski founded the Kim Rowden Breast Cancer Memorial fund which provides screenings for women without financial resources. This fund also sponsors the KCBC Mission Mammography event with WIVK to provide 107 free mammograms for women without insurance or financial means.

Congratulations Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski on the 2006 YWCA Tribute to Women Award.
