Knoxville, TN – On Sunday, May 6, 2007 bikers united to ride for a good cause… the fight against breast cancer. There were 150 bikes and 220 riders in the inaugural 2006 Rowden Ride which raised $5,100 to benefit the Kim Rowden Breast Cancer Memorial Fund. The fund helps women without financial resources to have mammograms. read more

With popular actresses Sally Field and Andie MacDowell looking on, Dr. Etta Pisano picked up a Ladies Home Journal Health Breakthrough award last year, in recognition of her work in promoting better screening for breast cancer. Pisano, a professor of radiology and biomedical engineering at the University of North Carolina, was principal investigator in the Digital Mammography Imaging Screening Trial, a multicenter study of almost 50,000 women. read more

U.S. women might not be getting screening mammograms as frequently as previously thought, a study suggests Monday. Most breast cancer experts advise that women 40 and older get mammograms every year or two. Prior research based on surveys of women had suggested that about four out of five U.S. women in that age group follow that breast cancer screening recommendation. Instead of simply asking women how often they get mammograms, the new study used a database of actual visits to 40 of New Hampshire's 44 mammography facilities. read more

"I know you can do it," said the father of Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski when she first considered becoming a doctor. That single sentence spurred Kozlowski on to fulfill her dream. Kozlowski first became a clinical breast radiologist. But she did not stop there. Kozlowski went on to establish Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center which provides breast cancer diagnosis, screening, and treatment all under one roof. read more

North Andover, MA - March 22, 2004 - Aurora Imaging Technology, Inc. (www.auroramri.com) completed the first clinical installation of its 1.5T Dedicated Breast MRI System with bilateral RODEO (Rotating Delivery of Excitation Off-resonance) imaging technique at Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center. RODEO is a proprietary pulse sequence that provides robust fat-suppressed, magnetization transfer contrast in an efficient high-resolution MR image acquisition. 10.07.2002 - Breast Center introduces first breast MRI machine to Southeast - Knoxville News Sentinel
In a quiet room on the upper level of Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center is a 700-pound magnet.
Radiologist Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski, medical director of the center, is pulled to the technology it supports. The magnet, surrounded by protective metal walls, powers a dedicated breast magnetic resonance imaging - MRI - machine, one of six in the country and the only one in the Southeast. KCBC began plans to purchase the machine, which cost about $1 million, a year and a half ago, first having to apply for a Certificate of Need from the state Board for Licensing Health Care Facilities, then having to plan and execute a $300,000 building renovation to accommodate the huge, heavy equipment. read news article
